Spliced Jay by Tagami-Crown Spliced Jay by Tagami-Crown
Just made it, hooray! This is my entry for the Splice contest, which sounded like a lot of fun.

This is a weird combination of multiple bird species including blue jays and cardinals, along with the introduction of several insect species' genes, resulting in extra plates of incomplete exoskeletal support as well as lengthening various body segments.

Thank you very much! I was actually somewhat split on my overall feelings for this piece, but I know that when I space things out more, then I can do a better job next time. ^o^ Thank you for the good luck, even though I'm not one of the winners, haha. It's okay because I'll work harder the next time!

The intricate stuff was lots of fun, once I figured out what exactly I was going to do, haha. I hope to do better next time, whenever I decide to do this kind of thing again, too. :boogie: Thank you very much!

Oooh, hello there. I'm really enjoying the colors on this, especially the mix of traditional and digital media. I think that's what I'm seeing? I think you've done with the coloring details, too; I think if anyone really just spent some time looking at how you worked with the wing, I think they'd really come to appreciate it. I think it's clever how you got the two toes connected, really keeping true to the insect design. Overall, I think this is really cute; it's something I'd expect to see in an exotic paradise of some sort.

It's technically all digital here~! Any traditional work was done in the sketch phase, but that's where it ends. I'm glad that it looks at least somewhat traditional, though. The feathers were a bit intimidating initially because it's been a while since I've done any art with heavy duty feather stuff, especially for the wings, but that's what research is for. I see you noticed the connected toe stuff, yay! Most insects only have two toes, so I thought to include that in somehow. If something like this really existed, it'd probably eat up all your fruits~!

I'm not part of Gaia Online, nor am I familiar with it. o_O This is a bird/insect hybrid, by the way, but thank you for the compliment that it looks reminiscent of a dragon. :)
